A herring of estuaries and sheltered coastal bays, the Perth herring is abundant in Western Australian waters and reaches about 36 centimetres. It filters tiny plankton from the water, and its eggs and larvae drift in the open sea. Local fishers mostly use it as bait in the rock lobster trade.
