A small silvery ponyfish with a highly protrusible mouth that shoots forward to seize prey, this fish hunts small fish, crustaceans and worms over sandy and muddy coastal bottoms. It moves in schools and grows to about seventeen centimetres. Larger ones reach the market fresh or dried while the rest go to fishmeal.
