A small silvery ponyfish of inshore shelf waters, the rhomboid toothpony reaches about 18 centimetres. Like its relatives it has a protrusible mouth that shoots forward into a tube to snatch small prey from the water. It keeps to the soft bottoms of the continental shelf down to around 50 metres.
