A long, rigid pipefish of gravelly bottoms around rocky reefs, the saw pipefish drifts stiffly like a piece of debris while sucking up tiny prey through its tube snout. As in all pipefish the male broods the eggs, carrying them in a pouch beneath his tail until they hatch. It grows to about 30 centimetres.
