A long, eel shaped fish of southern Australian estuaries, bays and coastal reefs, the rock ling shelters in caves and rocky recesses as an adult while the young grow up in seagrass beds. It lays eggs that drift in floating capsules and can reach about one and a fifth metres. It is uncommon and keeps to rocky ground.
