A boxfish encased in a rigid bony shell, Whitley's box putters through clear lagoons, seaward reefs and quiet shoreline waters, nibbling algae and invertebrates. Its boxy armour leaves only the fins, eyes and mouth free to move. It reaches about 16 centimetres and lives between roughly 3 and 27 metres.
