This shrimpgoby shares a sandy burrow with a yellow snapping shrimp, the shrimp digging while the fish stands guard at the mouth. It lives in pairs on coarse sand of outer lagoons and seaward reefs between four and twenty metres, taking small invertebrates from the bottom.
