This slender pipefish works as a cleaner, sharing crevices in rocky reefs with shrimps, mud crabs and the occasional moray eel. It lurks in small caves from tide pools down to about 30 metres, often near sponges and Diadema urchins, and the male broods the eggs along his tail.
