A broad headed toadfish of shallow littoral waters, it lurks on sandy and rocky bottoms and squeezes into crevices and caves, with big individuals found in less than a metre of water. It feeds mainly on molluscs and crustaceans, and the male guards eggs laid in his den. It reaches about forty centimetres and is regularly eaten by local fishermen.
