The arrow goby shares burrows dug by shrimps and crabs on sand and mud bottoms, ducking inside when a threat passes or the tide drops. It feeds on algae and tiny drifting life, and even shoves large food scraps toward crabs to be torn up. It turns up in estuaries, lagoons and tidal channels, sometimes into fresh water.
