An eel tailed catfish of shallow bays and sandy inlets near river mouths, the estuary cobbler hides by day in holes and bank ledges and hunts mostly at night. Its fin spines carry venom strong enough to give a painful wound, so it is handled with care. It can reach about ninety centimetres.
