A tiny triplefin of rock pools and wave battered surge zones, it clings to steep boulder faces crusted with invertebrates and algae. It lays hemispherical eggs anchored by sticky threads into the algae, and its larvae drift in shallow nearshore water. It grows to about 6 centimetres.
