A tiny temperate anglerfish of inshore reefs, the prickly anglerfish grows to barely seven centimetres and sits camouflaged on the bottom. Like other frogfishes it dangles a built in lure above its mouth and engulfs prey with a sudden gape. It lives in shallow water down to about 20 metres.
