A small purple and gold reef fish of the Caribbean, the blackcap basslet hangs along vertical cliffs and drop offs beyond the outer reef, often hovering belly toward the rock and sometimes fully upside down. It keeps to deeper water, mostly past thirty metres, and darts back into cracks the moment a diver gets too close.
