This pipefish turns up among loose seaweed and over fine sand, sometimes drifting with dead Zostera, its preferences still poorly understood. As in all pipefish the male carries the eggs in a pouch beneath his tail, brooding them until they hatch, and it reaches about twenty three centimetres.
