The ragfish has a loose, scaleless body and a soft skeleton that is mostly cartilage, so it hangs limp like a rag when lifted from the water. Adults live near the bottom in the deep North Pacific while the young drift in shallow or offshore surface waters, and it grows past two metres feeding on jellyfish, squid and small fishes.
