A right eyed flounder of sand and gravel bottoms, the Pacific rock sole feeds on mollusks, polychaete worms, crustaceans, brittle stars and small fish as it lies flat on the seabed. It grows to about 58 centimetres and ranges from the shallows down past 500 metres. It is a tasty food fish supporting sizeable commercial catches.
