Despite the name the beachsalmon is no salmon but a silvery inshore fish of northern Australia and New Guinea that moves into brackish water in the lower reaches of rivers, estuaries and bays. It reaches about thirty eight centimetres and has a single dorsal fin set far back near the tail.
