A grey, oval bodied sea chub of the eastern Pacific, the halfmoon grazes seaweed and small invertebrates around rocky areas and kelp beds from the shallows down to about forty metres. It releases its eggs into open water and grows to around half a metre, with flesh that markets well fresh.
