The bighead gurnard perch is a temperate scorpionfish of southern Australia found inshore on reefs and soft bottoms, ranging from shallow water down to nearly six hundred metres. Like others in its family it carries venomous fin spines, so it is best admired without handling, and it grows to about half a metre.
