The whitelipped eel catfish prowls coral reefs and sandy, weedy patches, often resting under ledges or around coral bommies by day and feeding mostly at night on snails and other prey. It can grow well over a metre, and like all eeltail catfishes it carries venomous spines that make a careless handler regret it.
