Boldly spotted on a dark body, the varied carpetshark is a small, slow bottom shark of southern Australia found from inshore reefs down to about a hundred and eighty metres. It turns up over sand, reefs, kelp and seagrass, lays eggs in tough cases, and so little of its life is documented that much remains guesswork.
