A schooling fish of reefs and hard bottoms, the Atka mackerel ranges from the intertidal zone down to about 720 metres, near the surface and along the seabed alike. It grows to around fifty seven centimetres and feeds fishes, seabirds and marine mammals throughout the cold North Pacific.
