The rubberlip seaperch takes its name from the thick, fleshy lips that frame its mouth, an eastern Pacific surfperch that schools around rocky reefs, kelp, jetties and pilings from the surf zone to about fifty metres. Like all surfperches the female carries her young inside her and gives birth to live, fully formed fish.
