The grunt sculpin is a tiny, oddly shaped fish that hops and crawls over the bottom on its finger like lower fin rays and makes faint grunting sounds when handled. It haunts tide pools and rocky shores of the North Pacific and often wedges itself into empty giant barnacle shells, discarded bottles and cans.
