Reaching about a metre, this large snapper hunts other fish alone over coral reefs from shallow water down to fifty metres or more. It carries trailing filaments from its dorsal fin, and in some areas it builds up ciguatera toxin, so it is banned for sale in Australia and best left uneaten.
