The Pacific sandfish spends its days buried in muddy or sandy bottoms with only its upturned, fringed mouth showing, waiting to snap at passing prey. Adults move into deeper water while the young stay close to shore, and the eggs are laid in a jellylike mass stuck to the rocks. It reaches about thirty centimetres.
