Clonal Anemone

Anthopleura elegantissima

Clonal Anemone

This anemone clones itself into dense carpets, spreading across rocks and pier pilings from the intertidal into shallow subtidal water. Neighbouring clones of different colonies will press their stinging tentacles against each other along clear battle lines, and it is harmless to people.
