Barely the size of a fingernail at about two centimetres across, this near transparent box jelly delivers the sting behind Irukandji syndrome, a delayed wave of severe pain and sickness. The drifting adult medusa hunts around reefs, islands and beaches, while its early polyp stage is thought to settle in low salinity estuaries.
