A common encrusting soft coral of the southern fjords, it spreads over rock and over living surfaces such as snail shells, mussels, worm tubes and dead gorgonians between 3 and 30 metres. It tolerates the low salinity surface water that pools in fjords, feeding on plankton through its retractable polyps.
