One of the largest jellyfish in the world, Nomura's jellyfish can swell to two metres across and weigh as much as a person. Vast blooms have plagued Japanese fisheries since the early 2000s, possibly fuelled by warming seas, since the medusae grow fastest in warm water. It drifts in the semi enclosed marginal seas of East Asia, from the surface down to nearly 180 metres.
