This wobbegong wears a beard of branching skin flaps around its mouth that breaks up its outline against the reef floor, where it lies flat and still by day. It feeds on bottom fish and invertebrates and is known to take squirrelfish, soldierfish and sweepers at night. A diver who crowds or grabs one can be badly bitten.
