A fast, deep bodied jack of offshore reefs and open water, the yellow jack reaches about a metre and hunts small fish, generally alone but sometimes in small groups. Juveniles shelter near shore over seagrass or tag along with jellyfish and drifting Sargassum. Larger ones have caused ciguatera poisoning, so eat with caution.
