A small triplefin of rocky shores, the Tasmanian robust triplefin perches in exposed pools and clings to wharf piles among encrusting life down to about 7 metres. It reaches only about 8 centimetres and props itself on stout pelvic fins as it watches for tiny prey. It is harmless to divers.
