A squat electric ray of Australian sand and mud bottoms, the coffin ray buries itself and stuns prey with a jolt from paired organs in its disc. It takes crabs, worms and fish, sometimes prey nearly its own size, and can survive for hours if stranded by the tide. It grows to about seventy centimetres.
