The jumbo flying squid is a powerful, fast growing hunter of the eastern Pacific that can reach close to four metres including its arms, though most are far smaller. It rises into the top 200 metres at night to feed and sinks into deep, oxygen poor water by day, and large shoals are caught on jigs. Its conservation status is listed as Data Deficient.
