Swordtip Squid

Named for the sharp point on its mantle, this squid reaches about half a metre and lives over the continental shelf, wintering inshore in shallow water. It spawns year round on sandy coastal bottoms between thirty and a hundred metres, and supports busy jig and net fisheries with most landings between fifteen and twenty five centimetres.
