Calanoid Copepod

Acartia tonsa

Calanoid Copepod

A copepod barely visible to the naked eye, it swarms in coastal and brackish water and tolerates a wide swing in salinity. It hangs in the upper fifty metres and feeds two ways, straining phytoplankton from the water and ambushing tiny ciliates.
