A common hermit crab of bays, beaches and mangroves, the thinstripe hermit favours muddy ground rich in settling organic matter and feeds mostly on detritus. It carries its soft body in a borrowed snail shell and avoids stretches freshened by runoff. It lives in the shallows down to about twenty two metres.
