A grazing chiton of rocky pools and solid rock, the liquorice sea cradle clings on with a broad muscular foot down to about thirty metres. Its shell is built from eight overlapping plates that let it curl up like a pillbug, and it scrapes algae from the stone. It is harmless and gathered locally to eat.
