The circular cardinalfish is a cryptic reef dweller that divers rarely spot, turning up instead in dredges and rubble samples between about eight and 40 metres. It keeps to beds of calcareous Halimeda algae and rubble, sometimes among bushy coral, and grows to only four centimetres.
