A small white sponge with a delicate lattice of calcium spicules, it grows on hard bottoms in cold Chilean fjords between nine and twenty seven metres, sometimes settling on mussels and slipper limpets. Like all sponges it lives by drawing seawater through its body and straining out food, and it is harmless to divers.
