A spearing mantis shrimp reaching about twenty two centimetres, it lives in burrows on sandy and muddy bottoms across the coastal shelf between four and sixty metres. Rather than smashing, it stabs passing fish and shrimp with barbed, blade like claws, and is harmless to divers.
