A flat bodied porcelain crab of soft muddy estuaries, the false porcelain crab lives from the shallows into deeper sublittoral water. Rather than hunting, it fans feathery mouthparts through the water to comb out drifting plankton, and like true porcelain crabs it readily sheds a leg to escape a grip.
