This is the largest helmet snail in the Atlantic, its heavy triangular shell reaching about 35 centimetres across sand bottoms near seagrass beds. Helmet snails are sea urchin specialists, and the emperor helmet plows shallow subtidal sand in search of them, ranging down to roughly 180 metres.
