Burrowing deep into clean sand below the tide line, this sturdy clam keeps its rounded white shell hidden in the sediment. Like other lucines it relies on sulphur feeding bacteria living in its gills, drawing nourishment from the chemistry of the buried sand rather than filtering much from the water.
