A large abalone reaching about twenty five centimetres, the green abalone shelters by day in rock crevices from the low tide line down to around eighteen metres. The young hide in cryptic spots until dark, then roam out to graze on drifting algae before returning home by dawn. It is listed as Critically Endangered.
