Silverlip Pearl Oyster

The silverlip pearl oyster grows to about thirty centimetres and prefers clear, current swept water, often packed into dense colonies. Anchored to hard ground by tough byssal threads when young, it lives down to around sixty metres and is the source of large South Sea pearls.
