A goby of brackish lagoons, estuaries and the lower reaches of large rivers, the mushroom goby keeps to rock bottoms and sunken trees and rarely ventures into pure freshwater. It spawns from December to April, and females may breed more than once in a season, feeding mostly on crustaceans.
