A stocky goby of inshore shallows over shell, sand and mud that sometimes pushes into fresh water, it hunts mysids, small amphipods, tiny gobies, bivalves and worms. Females mature within a year or two and spawn at least twice each spring, tucking sticky eggs under stones and shells.
